Landlords, it’s later than you think. Socialists, masquerading as Democrats already control New York, Chicago, Seattle, Portland and are poised to win both Los Angeles and Washington DC. That’s our nation’s capital folks.
Their hatred of America is palpable, their desire for social ‘justice’ and revolution self-evident.
Landlords should stop pretending this is just another left of center “progressive” faction of the Democratic party. Their radicalism is third world.
According to the Washington Examiner, many of them “want to abolish the police, prisons, borders, and all immigration control; destroy the United States and Isreal; and push for Palestinian statehood, jihad, and communism.”
As William McGurn said in his WSJ editorial, “Mao meets Manhattan,” Pity the landlord. In communist China in the 1940s and ‘50s, landlords became “class enemies” and were publicly denounced in “speak bitterness” campaigns. An estimated one million to two million of them were murdered.”
“Today Chairman Mao has morphed into the friendly face of Mayor Mamdani. As Zohran Mamdani denies that the democratic socialism he champions is communism, he has embraced the same vilification and targeting of landlords.”
The title of his administration’s recent report, the “Rental Ripoff Hearing Report,” gives their game away.
As McGurn says, “Reading it, you would think there isn’t a single landlord in the city who treats his tenants decently and keeps his building in good repair.”
This is straight out of Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals: A pragmatic Primer for Realistic Radicals,”: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”
Landlords in failing progressively governed blue state cities like NYC, Chicago, Denver, Seattle, Portland, LA, etc., are fat targets.
There are many fewer of you than there are of them. And they want what you got: housing.
Ultimately, it’s much more than “targeting a few apartments in bad shape,” says Howard Husock, author of “The Projects: A new History of Public Housing,” and a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. “Mamdani (and his minions) are villainizing landlords as a class – for him, the problem is private ownership itself.”
“Picking up on echoes of the Chinese Cultural Revolution, Mr. Huseen add, “Next he’ll require them to wear dunce caps.”
This process of landlord vilification is a dynamic one. NYC is the template and ‘Chairman’ Mamdani its nominal leader.
However, with more blue state cities falling to the socialist sword every day, it is likely coming to a town near you soon.
With the cost of owning exceeding that of renting by nearly 40% in every major American city, it is not likely to abate any time soon.
With Portland a Petrie dish of dysfunctional and uneconomic progressive ideas, years ago we posited it is government’s intention to drive landlords out of the housing business, because the problem for them is private ownership itself.
Your rental properties are worth less than they were a decade ago due in large part to this relentless attack on private property rights.
In our opinion, you would be well served to consider DSTs a possible escape hatch to reduce your exposure to this socialist onslaught.
Their goal is to impoverish you and in so doing empower themselves. You have been warned.
